Privacy policy

The short version
ChmodCalc is a static site. The calculator runs entirely in your browser: the modes you tick and the paths you type are processed by JavaScript in your own tab and are never transmitted anywhere. There is no account system, no login, no comment form, and no database. You can verify this in your browser's network panel — nothing is sent while you use the tool.
What is stored on your device
Nothing by the calculator itself. It sets no cookies, writes nothing to
localStorage or sessionStorage, and keeps no state between visits.
Reload the page and it starts from its default mode again. The copy buttons use your
browser's clipboard API, which writes to the clipboard only when you click and reads nothing
back.
Server logs
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, the platform processes standard request data — IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp — in order to deliver pages and to mitigate abuse. That processing is Cloudflare's, governed by its own privacy terms; this site's operator does not receive, retain or analyse those logs.
Analytics
If aggregate visit statistics are enabled, they are collected using Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and does not fingerprint or track individuals across sites. It reports page-level totals only. When the analytics token is not configured in the deployment environment, the script is not emitted at all and no analytics request is made.
Advertising, including Google and DoubleClick cookies
This site may display advertising served by Google. The following disclosures apply whenever advertising is active:
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.
- Third-party vendors and ad networks other than Google may also serve ads on this site and use cookies for that purpose; the same opt-out link above covers participating vendors.
Advertising is gated behind a deployment environment variable. When that variable is not set — which is the case until this site has an approved advertising account of its own — no advertising script is loaded, no ad slot is rendered, and no advertising cookie is set by this site.

Pages here link out to source repositories, standards documents and a small number of other tools run by the same operator. Once you follow a link you are on that site and its privacy terms apply; this policy covers only pages served from this domain.
Children
This site is a developer utility and is not directed at children. It knowingly collects no personal information from anyone, of any age, because it collects no personal information at all.
Your rights
Data-protection rights such as access, correction and erasure attach to personal data held about you. This site holds none, so there is nothing to disclose, correct or delete. If you want your interaction with the site to leave no trace in the host's logs, a VPN or a privacy browser is the appropriate tool — that is outside what any site operator can offer you.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes — in practice, turning advertising on — will be reflected here at the time they take effect, and not afterwards.
